So I managed to “Go the distance” to MB’s concert last night, not expecting too much(this attitude was soon proved to be very wise a few minutes after admission).
At 19:30, the performance started precisely on time. What a miracle!…well, I should’ve really held my exclamation… instead of the legendary hot long-haired Michael, 4 anonymous ladies in red stole the spotlight.
I cannot deny that the four Chinese ladies in red looked great or even sexy…at least from my certain distance, and that their quartet was okay. First they played(and performed, I mean, in a body-twisting and hair-swinging way…still not so bad.) ‘Victory’ of BOND(I like this REAL band a lot so I didn’t complain ) from their debut album in 2001. I was surprised when they started to play the Chinese househeld song “Haoyiduomeilidemolihua(what a beautiful jasmine-,-)”, we all know there’re a million versions of this song adapted, remixed, recomposed by foreign musicians, out of some reason I’ll never get.
Anyway, the audience were quite contented that the-SISTER-four only played two songs, so together we kept waiting for the ex-superstar to come on stage.
For about 5 minutes the stage was almost empty, and the background music was really annoying. Then some impatient youngmen started to yell. What should be mentioned particularly is that there seemed to be more male fans than female ones–at least it sounded like this. I heard people(mostly male) yelling “Michael!”,”Wwooohhh!”,”We miss you!”… things like that from time to time. Maybe the girls are too shy(I’ll prove this assertion wrong later with my own experience).
The audience eased down a bit when a host came up with a microphone…Jesus we could hear some human voice at last! For several minutes we heard the man talking about MB’s history…He tortured us for several minutes with numbers of records and whole-hearted praises to MB. I felt greatly relieved when he finally stopped talking in Chinese… but who would expect him to repeat that same story again in English?! But! There he started! Same story in English! We all thought he was crazy, he’d gone a little cuckoo in the head, or whatever; anyway he struggled for a while trying to continue the speech, before SHOOed away by furious audience(sorry i joined the shooing, it was funny )…”to hell you mad man we’re here the concert, not history review!”
Thank God Michael finally showed up around 8:00pm, half an hour later than as stated in the ticket. Where has all the long-hair gone?! Although in fact I like the way he dressed up, and the short hair.
The first song was “Soul Provider”, and I started to wonder whether he’d caught a cold…
Then he started to talk, in an extremely low voice, and with an unprofessional interpreter. We immediately forgave him for the sake of his cold: yes it is really cold these days in shanghai . He said that he’d caught a cold but didn’t want to cancel this concert, and he promised to do his best for the audience. He promised so sincerely and true-heartedly that I believe some girls might have burst into tears at those words.
“To love somebody”,”you don’t know me”…
sincere and truehearted apologies again…
A not-short break.
“Rock Me”, “Time,Love And Tenderness”,”Georgia on my mind”,”How Can We Be Lovers”,”Go the distance”,’”How am I supposed to live without you”…
When the band started to play “Said I loved you…but I lied”, I knew the concert was to finish in a few minutes. Still I was kinda waiting for him to sing “When a man loves a woman”, and I yelled this request all out, together with some other female audience who were not SHY…
“When a man loves a woman!”
“When a man loves a woman!”
“When a man loves a woman!”
I bet he heard us…but…we had to understand that he was not quite himself; he’d got a serious cold and could not even speak very loudly; he was singing with half his voice…
The concerted ended with “Reach out”, after which I walked out, rather disappointed.
It was only 9:15pm when the concert finished . MB was actually on stage for no more than 60 minutes, and there he came and went, away with our money…

Now I feel much better now writing these down, and, luckily I’m not a MB fan…haha . (If Celine would ever disappoint me like this…I’m gonna bump my head to the wall without any hesitation….!!!If she would really come to shanghai someday…I’m gonna bump my head to the wall without any hesitation even harder…haha)
